Timing, Single Fire ignition

Checking the ignition timing marks for accuracy using the "positive piston stop" method. Note the steel plate on top of cylinder.

Full advance mark at 35° BTDC. Flywheel drilling was perfectly accurate.

TDC mark is a line. Accurate. It's good to orient which mark is what without relying on guesswork. Harley used many different markings over the years.

Rear full advance mark (lazy eight) exactly where it should be.

Finally I transferred the marks to the alternator rotor for convenience. Beats using the flywheel marks with a glass eye. Ignition to be electronic so won't be using strobe very often, perhaps check once a year.

5ohm Dyna coil mounting mockup for single fire ignition..

All wired up plus a temporary 12v jumper for test purposes..

Modules installed, timed and tested. Great spark.

Marked Front and Rear modules for easy identification.

Flaming bar and shield.

24mar23 Reduced the ignition advance weights in size to slow the curve and delay spark advance. Springs well tightened as much as possible.
